Contract of “Persian Gulf Pearl Program” or “Pearl Program”, which is an advanced regional 3D Basin Modeling study in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea, was signed between Iranian Offshore Oilfields Company (IOOC) as the client, and a joint venture of Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and Dana Geophysics Kish Company (DGC) as the contractor, on 8 October 2011 in presence of Oil minister of Iran. In addition to the joint venture of RIPI and DGC some other international and national companies will be involved in this program.
The study will cover an area of about 183500 sq.km in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea and includes 80 geological structures, 17 oil and gas fields and 490 oil and gas wells. The “Pearl Program” will exploit the latest developments in Geosciences including Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and 3D Basin Modeling techniques to reconstruct the burial history of the sediments in the basins of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea from Paleozoic till now and also to determine the timing of generation, expulsion and migration of hydrocarbons along with the quality and quantity of hydrocarbons. These techniques also are used to verify the presence of oil and gas in structural and stratigraphic traps and to confirm the chronological order of geological events and will be a reliable base for ranking of potential areas for further explorations with less risk.
Geophysical studies of the “Peal Program”, which DGC is responsible for them, include Interpretation of seismic data, Inversion of seismic data, Seismic facies analysis and Reprocessing of 2000 Km of seismic lines in the Oman Sea. It is worth mentioning that such an integrated seismic interpretation study is very unique.
